Direct helicopter flights from Gorakshep helipad (approx. 5,100 m elevation) to Kathmandu make the end of your Everest Base Camp trek fast, comfortable and scenic. In about 65 minutes you fly 151 km from the high Himalayas down to Kathmandu (1,400 m). This one-way flight offers breathtaking aerial views of Everest (8,848 m), Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Pumori and other snow-capped peaks, plus high altitude Sherpa villages and monasteries. You literally soar above the glacier valleys and down to the Kathmandu valley in just over an hour, saving up to 4-5 days of trekking.
Gorekshep is a high altitude area. Due to safety reason Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal(CAAN) has introduced the rule of just taking 2 head and 10-12 kg of baggage from Gorekshep. It is possible to come up to 4 person by with shuttle.
If there are more than 2 person flying from gorekshep then it is necessary to do shuttle in Pheriche which is just a camp down towards lukla. If possible instead of taking the flight from gorekshep you can also trek one camp down and take a pheriche to kathmandu helicopter flight which will reduce the cost and all the team up to 5 people can come at once.
Gorakshep-Kathmandu flights carry up to 5 passengers per chopper. Flights operate year round (weather permitting) on a shared or private basis. Shared (seat-rate) tickets start at US$1,275 per person (with price decreasing for larger groups). Private charters are more expensive. All fuel surcharges and airport fees are included. Onboard service is professional: pilots brief you on safety and make sure you are seated with maximum visibility. You simply relax and enjoy the ride while the helicopter carries you down the Himalayas.
